Mightytext security risk3/24/2023 ![]() Oh, now you just wiped the employees personal contacts too! Are those getting wiped?īut what about contacts, are those contacts valuable to the competitor? Is the employee a sales guy who has a bunch of client contacts? http:/ Opens a new window / watch? v=s8QjArjcjbQ Opens a new window Better wipe those too. Are attachments getting cached? I know Adobe Reader on android seems to cache PDF files I open forever (years). I don't think anyone has a problem with that.Īlright, so company email is wiped? Good. What data are you trying to prevent from leaking? what type of data are you wiping? "Selective wipe" seems like bullshit to me. Now whether companies will use this or perform a full wipe "just in case" is another story. That will only wipe company pertinent data. Lots of MDM's now allow you do perform a selective wipe. (If they are getting paid well enough, where they can go out and buy a second device, thats fine too.) But if they are REQUIRED to use their personally owned device as a condition of employment, I don't feel right about it. Fine, sign this agreement, understand the risks. If for example, they REALLY want to use their iPhone, instead of a company owned blackberry. I feel as though the employees personally owned smartphone is THEIR property, and it's not my business to put restrictions on it. As important as those restrictions are for restricting company information, the employee is rightfully going to be pissed at the IT department. Then IT comes along, and sets up MDM solution, and suddenly the phone has all kinds of restrictions on it. Often, a new hire will already have a smart phone, that already has a ton of data on it, all their apps, etc. ![]() I don't think many company BYOD policies are truly voluntary. I feel like employers are forcing BYOD on their employees. I do have a problem with the way BYOD is implemented at a lot of places. I have no problem with wiping a company device. I completely understand the importance of wiping the devices.
